Burt's Trip to Vermont May 2008
My next mission was to hike up Camel's Hump, the second highest mountain in Vermont. It was 3.2 miles to the top with a 2500 foot elevation gain (4025 feet total height).
As you can see the trail was smooth with no rocks although the smell of fresh pine was nice.
I thought it would be nice to see a few patches of snow.
Too bad it turned into three feet of snow, adding to that the trail was a mud pie.
I came to an intersection in the trail, I did not know which way to go. This girl directed me and said I would be at the top in 15 minutes, and I was, after trudging through more snow.
The green mountains and Mt. Mansfield in the distance.
I actually made it to the top in the recommended time. I tried out my ham radio, no Vermont ham answered me but I talked to a ham north of Montreal and one in Sri Lanka.
These kids were from the University of Vermont, they hiked from Mt. Mansfield. They gave me strange food to eat. Some of them want to be teachers. I told them about the great Vermont joke, the so called "Grand Canyon of Vermont." None of them had seen it. I told them not to waste their time looking for it.
Coming down there were about 40,000 streams to cross.
