Burt's Visit to Switzerland, Christmas 2004

On December 30, 2004 I took the train from Lucerne to Zurich, it takes about an hour. It cost about $45. As you can see the train station is really run down. Notice the blue sign post on the left. "WC" is very important. It was also very difficult to find the time as you can see.

This is the trolley I took to tour Zurich, it was a 2 hour tour that started at 12:15 and ended at 1:30PM. It was a ripoff

I thought this shop in the "Old Town" section of Zurich had an interesting juxtaposition on the sign.

On the trolley two of us took the optional trip to a nearby mountain. I got to be real friendly with this fellow from India. He was afraid to walk on the trails because they were very slippery but he did it it with my prodding. Imagine a man from Cape Cod who is a Yankee fan wearing a Red Sox jacket paling around with a man born in India that now lives in Chicago. all this happening on a mountain in Switzerland. What are the odds?

We walked down to the next train station in what became quite a snowfall.

This is "Old Town" in Zurich. In several pictures I saw this cloud, so I retook the pictures until I figured out it was my breath. I carried some bottled water. It was always cold, because it was cold outside.

The train station in Zurich. Notice the wetness, this picture was taken only 30 minutes from the ones above in the snow. A little elevation makes quite a difference

Back in Lucerne, after I took this picture the owner came out and told me to erase it, as you can see I did just that (she said they had trouble with the police)

Many stores are the "Coop", there is the  "Coop" supermarket, the "Coop" bakery, the "Coop" department store....you get the idea. She says there is no sense looking for a better price on things as prices are the same.

Lots of bikes in Switzerland, although not as many as Denmark. In Lucerne bikes have their own lanes in the middle of the street so bikes cannot be cutoff by a car making a right turn.
